Tour Plan

  • Drive: An early start with an hour's drive from Moshi to Umbwe Village (1,490 m/4,890 ft).
  • Trekking: Begin the ascent via the steep Umbwe trail through a dense forest of rubber and giant fig trees.
  • Camp: Arrive at Umbwe Camp, where a warm meal awaits in the forested camp, with caves nearby for exploration.
  • Trekking: After breakfast, climb through thinning forest to Giant Erica, Heather, and dry air, with stunning views of Uhuru Peak.
  • Camp: Continue past giant groundsels, reaching Barranco Camp (3,900 m/12,800 ft) with breathtaking views of Kilimanjaro.

Rest & Acclimatization: A rest day to adjust to the altitude, allowing your body to better prepare for the upcoming challenge.

  • Trekking: Climb the Great Barranco Wall (a challenging but achievable obstacle) to the Karanga Valley campsite.
  • Views: Enjoy the stunning panorama, including the icefalls of the Southern Glaciers and the jagged Mawenzi peaks in the distance.
  • Trekking: Ascend east over ridges to the Mweka Route, then head toward Barafu Camp.
  • Camp: Set up camp on a narrow ridge with no water at Barafu—prepare for the summit push by organizing gear and hydrating well.
  • Summit Push: Start at midnight for the 6-hour climb to Stella Point, then continue to Uhuru Peak, the highest point on Kilimanjaro (5,895 m/19,341 ft).
  • Descent: After reaching the summit, descend to Barafu Camp, then continue down to Mweka Camp (3,100 m/10,170 ft).
  • Trekking: A scenic 3-hour descent to Mweka Gate, where you'll receive your summit certificate (gold for Uhuru Peak, green for Stella Point).
  • Return: Drive back to Moshi for a well-deserved hot shower and a comfortable night at your hotel.
